Welcome To My Blog!

Being a hockey mom just BEGS to be written about so when my daughter strapped on the goalie pads, I picked up the pen. Now I blog rink-to-rink keeping the world of youth hockey real AND real funny.

Through the highs, the lows and the all consuming stink, follow me on my journey to get through each season. Us hockey parents have to stick together!

Hockey Mom Book Club: The Puck Hog by Christie Casciano

Hockey Mom Book Club: The Puck Hog by Christie Casciano

Summer is the perfect time to catch up some reading. Rink time has slowed down (hopefully) and long, lazy, hot days just beg for you to pick up a good book. Of course, my selections also include hockey themed books so stay tuned each week for a different title and even ones that your player might enjoy! Disclosure: I have not received compensation for this review nor did I receive a copy of this book for free.

All Sophia wants is to play hockey and help her team bring home a championship but there is just one problem...Eddie won't pass the puck and the whole team is tired of it! Sophia learns the meaning of the term "puck hog" and realizes that assists could take her team farther than she could ever imagine! But will Eddie figure that out and make a change for the whole team's sake?

The Puck Hog by Christie Casciano is a work of children's fiction recommended for ages 6-9. Focusing on a youth hockey team in Syracuse, NY, where Casciano resides and is a TV news anchor, the book explores themes of teamwork and working together to achieve a common goal.

As some of us parents know, getting your player to read can be a challenge. They would much rather be on the ice or in your driveway denting up the garage with their slapshots. The Puck Hog is perfect for your young player for the simple fact that it disguises an important sports lesson with a fun story about hockey. It may even open up a discussion about their own team's dynamics!

And for those moms or dads who are not so "in the know" about hockey, there's a helpful glossary of hockey terms in the back of the book. Interesting side note: Christie often makes appearances at local schools to share the book and the gift of literacy with school aged children. Stick tap to her on that!

You can get your copy of The Puck Hog at Syracuse Hockey Mom's Network or through Amazon. Find Christie Casciano on Facebook, Twitter and in USA Hockey Magazine as the resident hockey mom.

Rating: 5 pucks out of 5 for promoting reading to young children!
