Welcome To My Blog!

Being a hockey mom just BEGS to be written about so when my daughter strapped on the goalie pads, I picked up the pen. Now I blog rink-to-rink keeping the world of youth hockey real AND real funny.

Through the highs, the lows and the all consuming stink, follow me on my journey to get through each season. Us hockey parents have to stick together!

Getting Caught Without Your Game Face On

You see a lot of ice arena attire if you are rink rat like most us moms are. Everything from the just-rolled-out-of-bed 6am practice look to the blinged out, designer labeled, fabulously coiffed, fully made up look. And everything in between. I had always thought there was something inherently wrong with the fully made up, made out look. I mean it is just hockey.

That was until one 6am practice.

The sinuses were acting up, I had a full on rudolph the red nosed reindeer zit, bags under my eyes and a hat on. Don't get me wrong, I like hats. I even love hats...on other people. I just look ridiculous particularly since then I had a short haircut and it just looked odd. But I figured hey it's just our parents, it's early and it is just practice.

Only when I saw OTHER parents start filing in at 6:30am did I realize my faux pas. Not only was there a game after us but it was between 2 teams with a lot of parents that I knew. Let the embarrassment begin. I couldn't hide, I couldn't retreat to the rink bar because it wasn't open yet and I couldn't pull the hat down over my eyes.

I was stuck.

I didn't know what to do so I did what I do best..find humor in the situation. I jokingly told everyone that I had dressed up for the occasion and that they shouldn't be too envious of my dazzling beauty. I still don't know if one of the dads ever recovered, the look on his face was something I won't soon forget.

Moral of the story? I don't hit the rink without at least SOME preparation. I owe it to myself and pretty much the entire youth hockey community.

You can thank me later.
